Re: re bet this will stump you

was it this (sung to the tune of Simon & Garfunkel's Mrs Robinson)?

His name was Edward G Robinson
That old movie star we loved to hate (loved to hate))
    The actor, Edward G Robinson
Snappy snarls, like "N'yaa" and "See" were great
    Great, great, great.

    Old comics always mimicked him,
    More than anyone else
In "Key Largo" with Bogie and Bacall
In the thirties, ":Little Caesar".. old time gangster flick
Great expressions and a classic sour stare

Oh, here's to Edward G Robinson
The tough guy gruffness was his trademark way
    Only one Edward G Robinson
No more calls, he gets the prize of play,
    Hey, hey, hey...Hey, hey, hey

In "Double Indemnity"...and in, "McKenna's Gold"
    "Cincinnati Kid" and "Ten Commandments"
    "Soylent Green".."The Sea Wolf"
    "Robin and the 7 Hoods"
"Nightmare"...and "Our Vines Have Tender Grapes"

    An icon, Edward G Robinson
Short in stature, giant on the screen, (nicely mean..)
God bless you, Edward G Robinson
Heaven is the stage for you today,

definately wasnt that one,it was all based on famous peoples names went something like
"hilary brook, elijah cook, and the verse finished with "edweard g robinson, edward g robinson(4 times),I know it sounds odd but it was hilarious

I remember it too Lulu - if it's the one I'm thinking of it was sung to the tune from Pirate of Penzance "Major-General" - very fast pace
I think it was his 'party piece' on live shows though and don't know if it was ever recorded. Hope you get the reply then you can let us all know !!

Re: re bet this will stump you

Hi, don't know if you are still trying to track this down, but it was called "The Name Song" and is available on YouTube. It is absolutely brilliant and shows the versatility and talent of Des. Incidentally, the tune it is sung to is called "Nola".
i had been trying to track it down for ages but was hampered by the fact that I thought the chorus was "Freddie Bartholomew" instead of E. G. R.. Once I discovered that, the rest was easy. Hope you enjoy. BB.
