                  Re: School!

At junior school some of the assembly songs were folk-type songs. I remember 'The Family Of Man' by The Spinners (not the Detroit ones), and 'The Gypsy Rover', and I remember 'Both Sides Now' by whoever did that one. 'Stand & Deliver' by Adam & The Ants (as mentioned above) was big at that time as well.
"We're the Sweeney son, and we haven't had any dinner!"

                      Re: School!

We had a song in the hymn book at my primary school that all the boys liked because it mentioned slaying dragons and everyone liked because it had a "Jazz hands" ending to it, can't for the life on me remember what the song was though.
I also remember everyone in assembly enjoying singing in rounds especially the Mrs. O'Leary's Cow one.

                            Re: School!

Am I old or what?!?!?!? Or maybe I've missed the whole point of this thread. Songs in the charts when I was at primary school where sung by the likes of Jim Reeves & Eddie Arnold I think. But as far as school songs go I remember well, Jimmy Cracked Corn, Spark & his lost voice, Donkey Riding and Manuel & the music of the mountain, to name but a few. Assembly hymns/songs were:-
Who would true valour see (to be a Pilgrim)
                            Fight the good fight
                            O Jesus I have promised
                            Immortal Invisible God only wise
The God of love my shepherd is
                            Lord of the dance
                            All things bright & beautiful
All the usual carols around christmas time........I could go on and on now I've started.

It was only when I started at the Comprehensive did I move on to Barry Blue, T Rex, Showaddywaddy, David Bowie, UFO, the list goes on................. :-)
