    Re: The Ghettoblaster

I got a Grundig one in 1987 with money I got for my 9th birthday.

It was in regular use until late 1995 when I got a Samsung twin tape deck unit with a CD player.

After that my Dad kept it in the kitchen until the tape deck began to act up, & after my Dad got a new radio & it was consigned to the back of the garage.

I had a phillips one december 1982.It cost me something like £69-00 from argos.I used to go everywhere with it blasting tunes out elo queen etc.I much prefer mp3 players now much lighter and at least your not starling the neighbours.;-)

I had a monster Sharp GF-555 many moons ago, then it broke, and then I was given (gasp) another one about ten years ago, which I then swapped for a Boss drum machine. I wish I hadn't!

There were some big enough to have a record player, I remember seeing a Sharp model with a turntable.

That similar, but the one I remember played the records sideways, not sure how the needle stayed in the grooves.

I thought the above photo might convey the sheer size instead God knows how many batteries it needed.
