Schindler's List and Sophie's Choice. Were they 80s? I watched them once and can't watch them again. I avoid films about WWII like the plague now.

A tv movie that rarely gets shown called "orphan train"...it had glenn close in it and about a train going from town to town finding homes for orphans...there is a lot more involved...not a classic tear jerker by any means and i was only like 10 the last time i saw it. Id kill to see it again though.

Most definitely..."The Elephant Man"....a very atmospheric and moving film.......I think it would be difficult for anyone not to be affected by the final scenes....
In nearly 40 years of watching films it still comes top of my list......

Add another vote for The Elephant Man. I actually watched it on DVD just a few months ago and the one scene that really, really got me was the scene where Dr Treves takes Joseph to meet his wife for afternoon tea. Just a really emotional scene that had me in tears and yeah, I echo the praise others have given it in this thread, brilliant film.

Bless the Beasts and the Children. I had to watch it in high school and remember at the end even the guys were crying. The movie still bothers me.

ANOTHER FILM THAT MADE ME SAD WAS d a r y l.

it stood for data analysing robot youth lifeform.
it was a science fiction film from 85 starring barrett oliver.

I watched it again a few weeks ago, I guess how we feel about a film or music is often linked to other memories of that time? I remember seeing "Stardust" (David Essex) with a certain young lady, and I associate sadness with that experience, both the film and the date! not that it brings a tear to the eye!

The champ always brought tears to my eyes. Also Last Feelings, The Last Snows Of Spring made me cry when I saw them all on video in the early 80's. There was a third film in the series but I can't remember its name!

E.T....Thats the one that really sprang to mind. My whole family cried when we went to see it in 1982. Still makes me cry so I don't watch it too often. Feels more special when I do watch it now and again.

The Land Before Time makes me cry when Littlefoots Mummy dies. I also think Love Story is a good tear jerker.
