Re: The best film of the 80s...

Without even thinking, my favourite film of the 80s is The Empire Strikes Back with the following coming a close runner up

    Back to the Future
    Raiders of the Lost Ark
    Breakfast Club
    Ferris Beuller's Day Off
    Lost Boys
    Ghostbusters
    Gremlins

Just in case anyone is wondering why I don't include the Return of the Jedi...it just wasn't one of my favourites of the 80s!

      Ghostbusters
      The Breakfast Club
Creepshow (For The Crate story alone, love that one)
Coming To America (Still makes me laugh now, so many great moments, Eddie Murphy at his best)

            The Princess Bride

No matter how many times I see it, it's as fresh as the first time. It's my all time no.1 favourite film

But I did like Labyrinth & Krull & Willow and The Untouchables

Undoubtedly one of the best films of the 80's was 'Ghandi' starring Ben Kingsley; any other opinions on this?

with so many good films from this decade its tough to remember them all.

Re: The best film of the 80s...

Some fantastic nominations; really pleased to see some folk remembering Creepshow.

                      Some which haven't been mentioned;

Growing up in the West of Scotland, Gregory's Girl will always be special to me - I could relate to that far better than to any of the Brat Pack offerings. It hasn't aged well, though.

Restless Natives, on the other hand, has aged VERY well indeed.

Top of my list, though, would have to be This Is Spinal Tap.
There is no beauty here, just the stench of wine and beer.

for me the best film of the 80s was 'when harry met sally' which just scrapes in at the end of the decade (1989)

I'm gonna go for the John Landis trio of -

                          The Blues Brothers (1980)
An American Werewolf In London (1981)
                          and Trading Places (1983)

Obviously there were many more awesome movies made in the 80s, but John Landis was on a roll & a half over those 4 years.

                            platoon. 1986.

Also in "Gandhi" was an unknown Daniel Day Lewis (Lincoln).
