I was usually quite careful with toys and looked after them. Most of them were either given away or sold when I had outgrown them. The one exception was a Corgi or Dinky mk 1 escort panda car. Brand new, just out of the box, I took it out to play with. One of the rows of terraced houses nearby had a gap where a house had once stood, but been demolished. The gap between was a pile of rubble and sand and for some reason that I still can't get my head around, I buried the car and then couldn't find it. Stupid boy.

Oh this thread makes me sad especially as its brought back a suppressed memory from a long time ago.

I was heavily into 'Subbuteo' as a kid in the mid to late 70's and my dad handed down his beloved set from the 50's. Now in those days the footballers were made of very thin plastic and were very two dimensional. For some reason I took great delight in snapping the players from their base and it gave a very satisfying feeling like popping bubble wrap.

I feel absolutely wretched for doing this now..............

          oh that is sad mate.
quite an unusual thing to do.

the fact your dad give it to you must make it even worse.

i had subbuteo myself think it just got damaged over time players got lost.

I seem to remember that most of my toys were broken in some way or another, I think I must of just played with them very hard!
What would be worth some money these days are the Palitoy talking daleks I had (both the red and silver versions). In good condition and boxed they would be around £200 each now! I don't even remember what happened to them, so much of my stuff disappeared in various house moves.

that's amazing, fantastic picture Victor. This set was very similar to mine, but it isn't the one - no biege radio ! and that guns different. It's funny my cousin had a set like this one, which was actually bigger than the set I had.

Now then these blasted plastic rolykins daleks were cheap toys I used to wreck on a regular basis. They came in red black and silver/grey. They now cost a small fortune on e-bay ! Probably because everybody slung the boxes away and wrecked theirs too !

When I think of all the toys I had which are now valuable it makes me want to cry.
                  Just to name a few.

Doctor Who Tardis by Denys Fisher.
Tom Baker figure with Sonic Screwdriver also Denys Fisher.
                  Dalek Figure.
                  Giant Robot.
War of the Daleks board Game now ultra rare.
Just about every Dr Who annual from 1972 on to 1980.
Jaws game from the film...ultra rare.
Escape from Colditz game original parker version..........Given away intact to a jumble sale!
I could go on but it gets too depressing....Lol.

                    sorry to hear that mate.
                    hindsight is a great thing.

was star wars stuff for me 1st edition stuff.
tons of mainly figures and a few of the bigger things at at's at st's.

but when your very young you never think to keep them in there packaging.
what age where you when you did this.

Funny, but one of my least favorite toys which I seldom played with, a tin, battery-operated robot is still in the original box and is now worth £500-600.

                      (not my actual one)

Well yes a lot of the stuff I "PLAYED" with as a kid is worth quite a bit more nowadays. However come on peeps never every trade of memories and hard learnt lessons in life for a hand full of dosh! If I'd have tried just not attached 4 match box cars to my feet and tried to rollerskate with them.

Look on it as a public service the more you destroyed your toys as a kid the more you are giving back to people of now who collect. No matter how much they collect they will never see the memory or reclaim the smell of you torturing that Actionman with that magnifying glass in the August of 1976 saying "No Mr Bond I expect you to die", then rolling around with laughter with your mate.

I had a big magnifying glass back then a lot of plastic toys and 6 weeks holiday what is an 11 year old boy supposed to do!?

I had a Corgi Batmobile which fired small yellow missiles and had small Batman & Robin figures to go with it for one birthday, I lost the Robin pretty much as soon as i opened the box and remember smashing the Batmobile with a hammer a few years later! Saw the same thing still boxed at a toy fair years later it was going for £200!!! I felt sick.

Maybe if I had kept my Sindy doll, paul, her red car and the boxes to go with them they could have been worth something

I had almost the complete collection of Britains tractors and farm animals. I ruined some of them by pulling the tyres off and bending the axles. Some of those tractors are now worth a lot of money. I had the Britains farmyard as well but my Dad ruined that by accidentally treading on it :-(
