  • ratchet operated toy car

Does anyone remember a toy car that had one large wheel like a cog in the centre. It also had a strip of plastic that had teeth in it which you pulled to make the wheel spin. You then put the car down and it rocketed off down the playground? It looked vaguely like a rocket or Malcolm Campbell's 'Bluebird' - very streamlined. This would have been a toy from the Seventies.

These were great toys! And the 'flywheel' type of operation extended to other things as well. I'm sure I had a toy that sent a flying disc (or some other object) off into the air using the same mechanism.

I'm sure I saw a "Pink Panther" car using that approach.

My brother had a car with one of these type of mechanisms, but I can't remember it's name.
I've also seen other toys with this.

              Does this ring a bell?

I had something similiar but they were shaped like real cars. You put this toothed pulley thing in them, pulled it and then they would fly off. They also had detachable parts, like bumpers and stuff that would go flying off when they crashed into each other.

                      I owned two of them.

Yeah. That was it! I never had one but my mate had an Eliminator. They were great! He always had cool toys - I remember he once brought a metal (tin) Zero-X spaceship toy (from the Thunderbirds feature film) in to school - it must have been about 3' long!

Thanks for helping me with this. If only they still made Revrods. I just checked Ebay but couldn't find any.
