  • Model World (1978)

Does anyone remember this lovely little series? Each week, Bob Symes (Shutzmann) gave tips on the best way to build models; mostly trains, but also planes I think. It was one of those beautifully simple programmes of the kind they don't seem to make anymore. The theme tune also sticks in my mind: an instrumental version of 'Boats and Trains and Planes'.

Bob is a real one-off. An amazing guy, who as far as I know is still around. He was certainly appearing at public events last year. He also has his own YT channel:

I liked his Patent Pending slot on Tomorrow's World, especially how he managed to link the demonstration of items together.

Yes, railways seem to have always been his first love.
He has a 1-gauge layout in his back garden!

Hi Daz. The only 'Modellers World' reference I can find on the net is that of a shop with the name. Bob Symes' show was definitely 'Model World'. The fact you also recall the theme as different makes me think this could be a completely different programme. Will let you know if I find out anything more.
