Who else remembers this great series of six episodes about life on the dole in the 80's? It was shown on tv in 1982.

My favourite episode was 'Yosser's Story' - really brilliant story but also tragic and heartbreaking.

The series starred Bernard Hill as Yosser, Michael Angelis as Chrissie and Tom Georgeson as Dixie Dean, amongst others.

It spawned the popular 80's quote "gizza job". LOL

What do others reckon to this series?

Yeah, and Yosser said, "I could have been a footballer....but I had a paper-round". Classic!

Yeah, loads of headbutting - it was great when he headbutted that copper when they were trying to take his kids off him, lol.

This is one of the great series of the 80s
          the yosser episode was unforgettable.
i remember watching Points of view with Barry Took and one reviewer cold not even begin to review it - it was so depressing and tragic.
That image at the end of Yosser on the ground. He looks like a wild animal.

The scene when Yosser is in confession is priceless
            Paraphrased:-

            Yosser: I'm desperate Father
Priest: Please, call me Daniel - Dan if you like.
            Yosser: I'm Desperate Dan!
(Yosser starts to head-butt the confessional)

            Brill Stuff!
I go back to the original Jethro Tull - Yes! The seed drill inventor!

Sorry.....just had to let you know that the scene above has just jogged my memory of BFTBS - I'm from Liverpool and so this series was dear to my heart. No lie - I'm right now crying with laughter remembering this scene!!!!!

                  Re: Boys From The Blackstuff

The series was shown two or three times but the original 'BLACK STUFF' never seemed to get a repeat showing - no idea why.

It was just as good as the follow on series once all the characters on the tarmac gang had been introduced - I think the main difference was they were all gainfully employed in the first drama and the humour came from the situations they found themselves in (massage parlour etc ) whereas they were battling through the eighties recession in the series

I had to watch Yosser's story for English or drama at school, still have the script book that I "forgot" to return

I remember it being on though I didn't watch it, everyone was saying 'Gizza Job!'. I bought the dvd as part of my hubbie's Xmas pressie last year. He was delighted.
