  • Silk Cut cinema ad

I have a vague memory of an advert - done by Saatchi and Saatchi I believe - for Silk Cut cigarettes. Involved a giant purple curtain being erected between 2 mountain tops and then being slashed. Have tried looking on YouTube for it, but no avail. Anyone remember it?

Don't worry, you're not the only one who remembers this. Came out around 1986/7 and seems to have been inspired by Reichstag wrapping duo Christo and Jean Claude's "Valley Curtain".

Did they allow cigarette ads at cinemas that late?

I know they were banned on TV in the mid 1960s, though cigar & loose tobacco ads were still allowed until the early 1990s.
