  • Matchbox? Mattel? HELP!

Ok - Heres another one to ponder....

My brother got a racing game back in 1974 - I think it was made by Matchbox or Mattel (Hot Wheels?) - it had a track consisting of track and curved bends - each of the cars was "charged" in a start gate by pressing a blue (?) button on the top. Once charged the cars were released and raced around the track. Each car had a little electric motor underneath the chassis - the cars were matchbox superfast/hot wheels size.

As we both remember - the set didn't exactly do what it said on the box and we spent hours trying to get the set to work without much success....

    Anyone any ideas?

AS I recall it th eSupercharger sets had motors in the "garages" that worked rubber wheels that grabbed abnd accerlated nornal Hot Wheels cars.

The Hot Wheels "Sizzlers" however did have little electric motors with rechargeable batteries. (and by some accounts not very efficient rechargers)
          See "Hot Wheels" on Wikipedia.

But I also recall a similar set on show at Hamleys which was not Hot Wheels at all. I'm trying to research or recall the brand name...
Something Italian is in my mind.

              Maybe my memory is off....
Have a look on youtube for Hot Wheels sizzlers (with orange *and* black track): lots of videos
              YouTube - HotWheels Sizzlers

But the ones I remembered in Hamleys are almost certainly "Darda"
with pull-back clockwork motors. Also present on you tube.

I *was* impressed at the time how long they would run.

I remember having a few toy cars made by French company Majorette.

They also made the Majokit layouts, which might be somewhere in my parents attic, or sent to a charity.
