  • World war 2 haunted village

    Hi all,

Got one for ya! Keep thinking of an old black and white american film. 1940 -1950. Set during the 2nd world war. A vet goes on leave or is wounded and sent away. He goes to a quaint english? village and meets a few people, etc. At the end it turns out that everyone is already dead because the village had been previously bombed. I think the last scene is the guy standing in a burning and broken church. I saw this 20 odd years ago and it has been bugging me since. Any ideas would be great. Many thanks

Strange - I was thinking about this film myself a few days ago wondering what it was called! I don't think it was a village though just a hotel or an inn.

This sounds a bit like "The Halfway House" made in 1944 starring Glynis Johns. Ten guests travel to a remote hotel in Wales, and notice that newspapers and calenders etc are all one year old and that the owners have no shadows.
