Re: Better or worse Cover songs?

I'm not going to be specific, because there are far too many songs that have two, three, sometimes even four other versions... for instants, I think that "It's my life" by talk talk, is a great song and that blondie from no doubt ruinned the song big time...

Singers should NOT take on songs which have no meaning to them.
The originals are made through feelings and thoughts of the original writer, and therefore the reason it works.

But to me any song remixed by any DJ has been ruined, Especially when the song is already a dance song.

But DJ's are up their own butts and think they can allways do better than the original, which to me just think should not be allowed.

Sure DJ's ocasionally do remix a better version, but it's very very rare.
Most of time they just ruin the songs.

I actually liked the Amy Winehouse version better

I usually don't like covers, and can't stand on radio one when people do covers of songs, which are usually rubbish, and Jo Whiley or someone say's 'that was awesome'

The Gary Jules version of Mad World was horrendous - How it got to number 1 amazed me. Such an abortion of a cover - I can't express how bad it was.

The Tears for Fears version was the definitive version and when it fades into Pale Shelter on the Hurting Album....Perfection!
I go back to the original Jethro Tull - Yes! The seed drill inventor!

I like Gun's version of Cameo's Word Up.
I have Other People's Songs, an album by Erasure that are all covers.
Their versions of Solsbury Hill and Make Me Smile are good, but I don't like the remake of Video Killed The Radio Star, its like it was sung by a robot. lol

Go West do a cracking cover of Vertigo live in concert.....they also did an excellent cover of Tracks of My Tears.

IMHO.....Worst would be Madonna's murder of American Pie.....just because you CAN do a cover version doesn't mean you SHOULD!

This afternoon I heard the diabolical 'Walk This Way' by Girls Aloud and Sugababes.

OMG call the police there's been a murder of a great classic!
