Re: Better or worse Cover songs?

    The worst:

YouTube - Celine Dion & Anastacia - You Shook Me All Night Long (Live Divas Las Vegas 2002) HDTV

    The Best:

YouTube - Hayseed Dixie - You Shook Me All Night Long

I believe this should put the discussion to bed

      Best cover versions:-
Dear Prudence by Siouxsie & Banshees
A Little Help From My Friends by Joe Cocker
      China Girl by David Bowie

      Worst :-
So many to choose from, but for me the biggest sin of all was Paul Young trying to cover Joy Division's Love Will Tear Us Apart.

Can't decide which is best :-
"Run" by Snow Patrol, and the brilliant cover by Leona Lewis. Both too recent for this forum though!

Urge Overkill's cover of Neil Diamond's "Girl You'll Be A Woman Soon" (on the Pulp Fiction OST)

Best cover version in the world, for me, has be the one I listened to today, for the umpteenth time - The Human League's version of the Gordon's Gin music (as found on their Travelogue album).

Its two for the price of one if you include The Human League's great versions of Rock 'n Roll/Nightclubbing..

and not forgetting that great version of You've Lost That Loving Feeling

I'll give you Rock'n'Roll/Nightclubbing, but I'm sorry, You've Lost That Loving Feeling blows big time - makes my toes curl in embarrassment!

If you have not heard it already, listen to Ozzy Osbourne's cover of Stayin' Alive by the Bee Gees

                    Wonderful!!!!

I suspect the rule would be the 'golden oldie' revamped any time since.

Slightly off topic, but generally the same theme. I have seen and heard many songs that are allegedy 'new' but the music is a rip off something else. There was one a copule of years ago that was, I think, Robbie Williams, and the music was Nancy Sinatra, 'You only live twice'. I also recall a small faces song in the 60s which used a classical piece as the music.

Read all five pages - not seein' it: Smooth Criminal by ALIEN ANT FARM (both the song and the video) - I'll get hated, but I think it's better than the original. A really close one - too close to call - is FEAR FACTORY's cover of CARS by Gary You-Know-Who. Just awesome cover and video - Numan even cameos in it! What got me was that I thought "Wow! Fear Factory must be cool!" But upon checking their OTHER stuff - it's that gosh-awful thrasher-death metal stuff with the gurgling, shouting demon-voiced "lyrics". OKAY... well, they did CARS right, anyways!

I actually prefer Madonna's American Pie to the original

Do not know the original song name or who it was sung by, but NOFX covered it....I want you to want, I need you to need me...I'm begging you to bed me...
The original was ****, but NOFX did a good job covering it
