Re: Better or worse Cover songs?

Two more excellent covers spring to mind - Ensiferum's 'Lady in Black' and The Flying Lizards' 'Summertime Blues'.

Boyzone could at least have done the full song of the Bee Gees' hit It's Only Words .
what is the idea of omitting one line.

thought celine dion's cover of power of love by jennifer rush was not as good as jennifers.

      thanks jacqueline it was westlife.

can't stand jedward they really can't sing ans should never have got so far in the 2009 X factor.

Could do well as entertainers though.

Last year I saw Hot Leg live and they did The Power of Love (Jennifer Rush) segging into The Power of Love (Huey Lewis and the News.) It was hilarious (in a good way). I was waiting for The Power of Love by Frankie Goes To Hollywood to make an appearance but it didn't.

"Worst:- Rolf Harris - Stairway to Heaven"

Maybe, but have you heard Led Zeppelin's covers of 'Two Little Boys' and 'The Court of King Caractacus'?

Jim Capaldi's Love Hurts. I think it was the Big O that had the original some 10yrs beforehand.

For me, the worst is barely even a cover.. Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice baby" to the tune of Queen and David Bowie's "Under Pressure".
The best has to be The Doors' cover of "Come on Baby Light My Fire" (can't remember the original author)

Re: Better or worse Cover songs?

The Doors wrote "Light My Fire", it was covered by Jose Feliciano, whose version IMO came nowhere near the original.

That also happened to Faith No More's cover of Commodore's 'Easy'.

One of my faves is 'Always on my mind' by the Pet Shop Boys. I think a lot of the time it depends on which version you come across first. I'm still discovering cover versions that I always thought were original songs.
