cant beat Hammer house or Tigon productions,
those were proper psychological creepy films unlike todays gratuitous unintelligent splatterfest torture porn.

Amongst my favourites would be theatre of blood with vincent price
quatermass 2 - Enemy from space
        quatermass and the pit.
The time machine (original version, not strictly horror but had its scary moments to a small boy of 7 years old)
The omen (original version, not the insulting remake)
The Amityville horror. (original version. not that travesty remake)
Salems lot (frightened me and my cousin silly that one did)

some are not strictly within the decades of this forum but i saw them in the 70's and thats why i like them.

Amityville Horror and the remake (80's version) of the Fly
I'd rather hear the bad truth than a good lie

Pumpkinhead is one of my favourite horror movies, it was called Vengeance the Demon when I rented it in the 80s though and House is awesome, and The Gate is brill too, not overly scary but amazing special effects

Re: what are members fave horror films

                'Halloween'
                'Salem's Lot',
                'An American Werewolf in London',
                'The Haunting'(1963)
                'Jaws'
                'The Changeling' (1980)
There are many old Hammer films I love like 'Twin's of Evil', 'Curse of the Werewolf'(1961) and 'Captain Kronos, Vampire Hunter'.
The 1974 BBC production of 'Dracula', starring Louis Jourdan is a particular favourite of mine. Susan Penhaligan is the scariest 'Lucy' I've seen yet.

                  they are good ones mate.

another i should have mentioned is the fly.
the original from 1958 i saw it on the goggle box last night.

                  very scary indeed.

also the exorcist and amityville 1 and 2.

I loved the original 'The Fly' too Darren..and I meant to mention I loved the original version of 'The Time Machine', I must've watched it about 20 times, though I don't know if it qualifies as a horror.
I know I'll be in bed shortly and I'll think of loads more.

strange how you remember them when in bed.

though jeff goldblums first fly film was very good also.

i remember the time machine one of my faves.

Re: what are members fave horror films

The Wicker Man (original of course)
                        Blood on Satan's Claw
                        Witchfinder General
                        American Werewolf in London
                        Evil Dead II

I'm surprised at someone rating Anthropophagus. I found it cringingly awful. Badly acted, with cheesy music and the "monster" just looked like he had porridge all over his face. Also the "head in a bucket" scene was a real laugh-out-loud moment!

Tales from the crypt, American werewolf in london, Saw series (exept number 4) and there is also a very creepy one like Tales from the crypt with 4 or 5 different stories and one has Tom Baker as an artist who when he does nasty things to paintings of people it actually happens to them in real life.
