  • 1980s maze games that had a blob of mercury in them

Am I imagining these, or does anyone else remember them?

I remember in the early 1980s, there was a craze for hand-held maze games (I think one was called something like "Ave a go joe")

I definitely recall one where you had to guide a blob of silver mercury around a maze, but I believe they were banned under elf n' safety.

    They'd never allow this now!

Yes, they most definitely existed, as a "modern", now "gone and almost forgotten", variant on the ball-bearing type mazes.

I don't know why we worry so much about elfen safety... what have the elves ever done for us?

Thanks for that - someone has also posted a video of one on YouTube:

I remember the kids being fascinated by these bleedin' things in the school playground, circa 1981!
