    Re: The Ford Capri

My dad had a metallic biscuity beige ford Capri in the 70s. It was eventually replaced with an orangey/ rust coloured Ford Cortina with a black leather roof that was the double (visually at least, I wouldn't know about the spec) of the one that Gene Hunt drove in Life On Mars.

I think we had a Capri, I can not recall though I have recollections of one - though I may be thinking of a Ford Escort tha we had which was similar in colour. Ford Capri's were a great Car indeed which I have got great memnory's of from the 1980s as with many other Ford's from this era too.

It was the car I'd always wanted, so when I got chance, I bought one back in 1989. It was a red 2L mk II (I think!), with alloy wheels. I loved it to bits, and was devastated when I had to part with it, as it was costing more to keep on top of it than I could afford

I nearly ended up with a 1980 V reg Capri 1.6L in Blue, but there was a choice of two cars for sale. The other one was a mk2 Ford Granada 2.8 GL 1978 S reg in gold pre-facelift model, so i chose the Granada.

            Ah, now you talking.

In 1982, I had a black Capri on a T plate (1979) with a black vinyl roof. It was a 3.0 ghia auto. It was the top of the range , it even had a wind up sunroof ! It cost me £3,500, which was a fortune back then.

It was much admired and I could afford to run it as I still lived at home with my parents.

Shame I never had anyone to share it with.

In 1985, I was hit at a crossroads at work (civil service) so hard that the engine was twisted at an angle. I walked away unharmed as did the idiot that hit me, but the car was written off. It took AGES to sort out, with Frizzells, everything done by (snail) mail as it was then. I have got some pictures somewhere, I'll dig them out.

It wasn't until a few years ago when I had a Mercedes did I possess anything that came close to that Capri.

Brilliant car the Ford Capri; so cool

Only issue is the fish tailing, though a few brick in the boot solves that problem

Do you really believe the other side without provocation would launch so many ICBM's, subs and ships knowing that we would have no option to launch as well? It would break our MAD Treaty (Mutually Assured Destruction) not to mention the end of the world as we know it.

                    Re: The Ford Capri

What a brilliant make of car the Capri was indeed. My Dad was always a "Ford Man" hence my dear loving of all the older versions of Fords to this day!

We had many a Ford at differing times - Sierra, Escort, Fiesta and the legend that is a Capri! If I had the Money I'd buy one in an instant and tour all over in it, just like Alfie did on EastEnders, when he drove off in his! A legend of a car .... no doubts!!

Talking of Ford's the most iconic model has to be the Mustang. Sadly not available in the UK.

My older cousin used to drive use his Capri for his everyday car and at weekends he used to road-rally with it !

After he'd had it nicked a couple of times he finally snapped and sprayed it BRIGHT PINK. !!!

It was never stolen after that , looked pretty crazy though with spoilers all around and everything PINK .

Here's one for all you Capri fans. I had a limited edition Capri II called the John Player Special in black with gold pinstripes. Nowadays my local council would send a man out in the night to paint over the tobacco logos and send me the bill. Here's a pic of one stolen from Google Images.
