For personal reasons, the year I wish could be written out of the 1980s. Too many bad personal memories too private to air on any public forum.

Anyway with things that aired in the media, here goes:
Eurovision Song Contest came from Munich in Germany.
UK entry "I'm Never Giving Up" by Sweet Dreams (6th with 79 points)
Luxembourg won with "Si la vie est cadeau" by Corinne Hermès (142 points)
Two nul pointers: Turkey and Spain

Breakfast TV launched: Breakfast time on BBC1 (Mondays to Fridays only)
    TV-am on ITV from 1 February 1983 (7 days a week)

Culture Club - "Karma Chameleon" was number 1 for a few weeks in October

      Two more songs that year:

Police - "Every Breath You Take"
      Billy Joel - "Uptown Girl"

As for 1983 films, Return of the Jedi came out that year

A great year for music. Spent a fortune on 12" singles.

It was a bit up & down for me, I managed to get Measles, Mumps & Chicken Pox all in this year.

I had my first overseas holiday in Portugal, which & was nostalgic enough for that I went back there a couple of years ago & visited some of the same places.

My parents managed to miss voting in the general election that year because it was called at short notice & we were going to be out the country, & in those days taking holiday wasn't good enough for a postal vote.

On of the odder(!?) Xmas number ones this year, being the Flying Picket's a capella version of Yazoo's Only You.

A mellowed down version of a synth heavy debut song would also top the charts 20 years later.

January 31st - A bad day for freedom of choice as Britain's first seat-belt use law came into force, mandating the use of belts in front seats, where fitted.
