BBC1 replaced its mechanical globe with the COW (Computer Originated World) on Monday 18 February at 7pm.
That same evening BBC1 launched its thrice-weekly chat show Wogan.
Also that week BBC1 launched EastEnders (then Tuesday and Thursday, plus weekend omnibus).

The Eurovision Song Contest came from Gothenburg, Sweden on 4 May.
Norway won for the first time ever with "La det swinge" by Bobbysocks (123 points).
The UK's entry was "Love Is" sung by Vikki Watson (4th with 100 points).
    I am 13 ... times 4.

    Re: 1985

First number one of the year was I Want To Know What Love Is by Foreigner and the last was Merry Christmas Everyone by Shakin Stevens.
My fave number one was probably If I Was by Midge Ure. Haven't heard that in years.
