    The Challenger disaster happened on 28 January.

    Cliff Richard re-released "Living Doll" with the Young Ones in aid of Comic Relief, the song spent 3 weeks at number 1.

    Other songs included:
    Billy Ocean - "When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going"
    Diana Ross - "Chain Reaction"
    Stan Ridgway - "Camouflage"

    The Eurovision Song Contest came from Bergen, Norway on 3 May.
    Belgium achieved its first ever win with "J'aime la vie" sung by Sandra Kim (176 points). It was found out afterwards she was only 13 years old, the youngest winner ever!
    The UK's entry "Runner In The Night" sung by Ryder came 7th with 72 points.

    The first number one of the year was West End Girls by The Pet Shop Boys and the last was Reet Petite by Jackie Wilson.
