View Full Version : Help with this cheesey song!
anyone remember -
'I put my mums high heels on yesterday, just to show I'm grown up in every way, I put some lipstick on my face and did my hair up just incase, incase he calls for me and asks me out to play - dooooo wop'
Bit hazey from an infant school disco, but nobody I sing it to remembers it. Am I going mad? It was by a young girl and in the video she was wearing her mums shoes.
Any help in restoring my sanity would be greatly appreciated!
sorry just noticed I posted this on the wrong section!

what decade was the song in? And also, was it a u.k based song or u.s or elsewhere?
It was early 1980s. Uk based.

I think this could be by Claire and Friends - the song was called "It's 'oribble Being in Love (When You're 8 1/2)", and was a number 13 hit in 1986.
I don't recall all the lyrics, but the bit you quoted sounds vaguely familiar.

Sounds a bit dodgy in todays climate, right up there with the minipops!

it was Claire And Friends.
No idea how or why I can sing it line for line but it may come in useful one day.
Wasn't she in a Saturday morning kids tv show contest.
What was the one the Mike Reid hosted, I think it was that one

It was "Saturday Superstore" that first introduced us to Claire (Usher) in its "Search for a Star" contest. The show was introduced by Radio 1 DJ Mike Read.
He has a lot to answer for..... :)

Yep, I am sure it was "Orrible being in love when you're 8 1/2"
It went something along the lines of
Oh it's orrible being in love when you're 8 1/2
Got your picture on me wall
got your name upon me scarf
etc etc
I *loved* it...forshame!!!

right up there with St Winifred's School Choir's song "There's No-one Quite Like Grandma"

I think that "Clare and friends" actually went to St winifrids too.
The school must have been looking to lose the one hit wonder status after "there no one quite like grandma". Or it just liked producing irritating songs so they could force the kids to appear on top of the pops(RIP).
Im now waiting for any of the guilty pupils who made these criminal records to come forward and confirm that these are connected.
...not to mention "Poor Little Sparrow" c. '79-'80 !
You know Sally Lindsay ( Shelley from Corrie ) was one of St.Winifreds ?

Did Simon Cowell go there as well, hes tone deaf too.
Or perhaps he was influenced at a younger age?
I m sure i came across DJ Mike Read on a radio station called the Big L really late on Sunday night.
Can anyone confirm if its him.
Does anyone have a link to hear this song ( 'orrible bein' in luv when you're 8 & 1/2 ), as I can't find one anywhere.. Used to love it when I was little... I know, the shame!!!;)
Thanks
