Help finding a name for a film

Hi could someone help me. When i was a kid I watched a cartoon film with a little boy in and his friend who was a little yellow dinosaur. The boy has a mission in this horrible land. He rides on the dinosaur's back but there is a bit that sticks out in my mind is the boy leaves the dinosaur for a bit but the dino is tempted in to a cave with food but when it enters the cave these vines come down and pulls the dino to the roof of the cave.
Later the boy returns calling his friend but he never finds it coz in the cave were the dino went all you see is its skeleton on the ground.

If anyone knows this film or show please could you let me know the name of it.
