i am 35,so guess it must have been around 1983/84 and remember going to the shop and buying germalene bubble gum,

it was pink or it could have been white , tasted and smelt like the anticeptic cream, think it came with a tattoo.not too sure the old grey cell is deteriorating quickly

wasn't germalene an ointment? Yucky flavor for bubble gum mind you if it was. Sounds like Bazooka Joe bubble gum......that had a ting comic strip with it, I vaguely recall other bubble gum with a tattoo, but not sure about that sorry.

Big hi, welcome to DYR, nice site you have too, funky........

I remember buying Pac-Man bubble gum. Each packet came with a game card that was a Pac-Man maze. You had to scratch off maze sections as you made your way through, and hope you did not uncover a ghost...

Wow that was kool, don't recall that, and I spent loads of money playing Pac Man in the arcades.

There was a Japanese Pac-Man player who knew the game so perfectly he played it blindfolded. I kid you not. I saw a video and it was staggering.

Thats scarey though, I bought the cheat books, with the patterns tried to learn them, failed miserably though, but loved the game, so different at the time too, simple but kool.

Rings a bell, was it not Dubble Bubble??.It was not actually made by Germolene, just smelt like it.I always thought Rootbeer tasted and smelt like Germolene too..
Anyone remember a bubblegum from around 1982/3 that was pink, circular and came in a miniature album cover?? I remember buying these on holiday.
I got a Gary Numan "Telekon" one :D.There were many covers to choose from

Could it have been Dentyne? It smelt antiseptic and tasted it a bit as well. Was in small pink strips.

I remember Dentine I always found it rather nice. To be honest I don't think that you could beat Bazooka, I remember the little coupons in them where you could send away for footballs, kites, watches etc. Can any one remember what the chewing gum was called that was about the same shape and size to a piece of Airways, and once you had bitten into it there was a liquid inside it, it was rather nice.

i know what gum your talking about, we used to call it germalene gum as well, although that wasn't its proper name, i remember the yellow & blue smileyface tattoo's! they should have reissued it during the acid craze of the 90's!

I remember it too..was it not connected to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in some way? or did I dream that bit;) or maybe I happened to be eating some when I watched it,as they have always been connected in my mind.
Anyone remember those small sticks of soft licorice flavored chew which were black and came with a small plastic "jolly roger" flag?

Aye thats them, I seem to remember also that instead of being chewy from the start they broke up in bits in your gob at first then you sort of got the bits together and then it was chewy and it was a slightly different flavor to the normal pink bubble gum's. Now what were they called?

I remember eating wintergreen flavour Lifesavers in the USA about 8 years ago & thinking yuck! they taste like that germoline bubbly when I was a kid, so I guess there was something but I cant recall what the wrapper looked like as I never liked the taste of real germoline let alone a sweet that was supposed to taste like it ;)

Very dangerous stuff as if would break into sharp shrapnel when first bitten. I remember seeing kids with cut lips from that stuff.

Did they not come in one of those two piece plastic balls with a round ball of gum?
I'd really like to see one of those books again, another thing i'd forgotten about.
Thanks for the memory Double :)

P.S Can you also remember the flick books too where the picture changes slightly on each page making it look animated ?(usually a match stick man taking a hat on and off!)

Thats ok - it's great just browsing here and seeing things lodged at the back of your brain. I used to like the tattoos book best too, used to lick your arm and place it on the desired spot - usually smudged and blurry. I have the real thing now though!
Can't remember what bubblegum it came with though:(

Dont know if its the same ones DA, but I remember getting mine out of those Bubble gum machines, the ones where you twist the handle to make the coin drop and the little plastic ball containing your "prize" drops. You'd get a round ball of gum and your little mini book inside :) We had a row of about three of four outside our Post office, others usually contained plastic rings or plastic watches!

A little like these :)

I guess this is the thread to post Bubble Gum info and images? If not please redirect me....

I couldnt put an exact date on these Topps gums, i know they were released on at least two occasions, once labelled with Bazooka, once not. Id say late 80s - mid 90s.

This is a pic of the earlier (Bazooka) display box, modelled as a crate for the juice carton shaped bubble gum containers.

I have so many candy containers and bubble gum/trade card/stickers packs/wrappers and boxes from the 80s & 90s i could add, but am not really sure where i should add them...

The last post was my favourite gum....the famous bubbly. I was champion of my street for the biggest bubble blower :D I have to say my biggest memory of gum was when I had stood in it and my mum banished me to the back garden along with my shoes to get rid of it. Took FOREVER to get it off with my dads screwdriver. Then next time my dad went to use his screwdriver, I'd get sent out the back AGAIN to clean that!

When I was around 7 or 8, which would have been around 1978 or 1979, I remember bubble gum that came with collectable cards. IIRC, the cards were of horror or vampire film stills, with tongue in cheeck captions.

Yes I remember those, they tasted like disinfectant and came with two smiley face tattoo's. I loved them!

I'm quite sure they were called Dubble Bubble and instead of it saying 'Americas Original' it said 'Fleer' before they were bought by marvel.

I've looked everywhere on the net but have only found different versions of them, and have not seen one single picture of the tattoo's (which says to me that they probably don't come with them anymore).

Hi, I'm a newby to this site, so be gentle ! I'm sat looking at 8 ChuPops, which came in minature record album sleeves. The Billy Joel one I have is the "Glass Houses" LP on the front, whilst on the back is the lyrics to "You may be right" from the album.
I bought a few of them, but they stopped selling them, probably for copyright reasons.

I commented on these on Cobwebbed Room. I used to buy a pack or two on the way to school (while chewing the very brittle gum supplied) and then trade the ones I already had when I got there with other kids who'd done likewise. Great days.

The name of the germoline bubble gum has eluded me for years. I remember it well. It was pink and had the two smiley face tattoos that were yellow with a blue outline and had different expressions. I think it came in a white wrapper but I can't remember anything else. I also remember those little books. They were in those egg machines, though the ones I came across never had bubblegum in them. You could always see what was in the eggs as they had one transparent end. I always wanted a book or a ring, but usually ended up with something rubbish - so rubbish I can't even remember what else came in those eggs!

Topps Ireland Garbage Gang Bubble Gum from 1990. Each piece of gum came with a single sticker. There are 30 in the set, but only 6 of the 30 could be found in each box of 150 gums..... so neadless to say it was a very difficult sticker set to complete.

I remember Dentyne, around my area it was cool to chew Dentyne. The red one (one I liked the most) was cinnamon flavoured. It also came in green - spearmint (or fresh mint) and blue - peppermint (or cool mint) but red was the best! Shame it's not around now. I think there was also a black packet which was menthol and aniseed or menthol & liquorice.

On a different note does any one remember the bubble gum that was rectangular in shape and was half pink and half lemon. You peeled off the side (flavour/colour) you wanted to chew and kept the other sie for later. Don't recall the name, pehaps some one will remind me. I think the wrapper was also pink and yellow but not sure.

Could it have been Dentyne? It smelt antiseptic and tasted it a bit as well. Was in small pink strips.

I can remember the Anglo Bubbly. I can remember them been quite chunky, they were round in shape and pink in colour. My favourite bubbly though, had to be Bazooka. I can remember they used to have a little coupon in with different things you could collect the coupons for, once you had enough coupons you could send away for whatever it was you had wanting. I can remember them been, footballs, watches, kites. The Bazooka bubbly was lovely, although it did not have a very long lasting taste :(

I can vaguely remember Dentyne. Did it used to have a liquid centre when you bit into it?

Nope. it was thin and flat and hard
Are you not thinking of Freshen Up? That has a liquid centre

I used to really like dentyne gum. Especially the one in the red and white pack. Think it was sorta clove flaovour. Really nice! I also remember freshen up. The flavour of that didn't last very long imo. Beech Nut was my favourite though. My Grandma used to eat it all the time. Think thats where my preference came from.

All I know is, when I had it, it will have been about late 70s ish. Was Freshen Up around then? :)

The "Die laughing" card we remember were actually repacked as "Creature Feature"
The originals were issued in the 50's

***Moderators Edit :Thread merged at this point, as there are pictures of these cards on this thread.***

Who remembers those black & white picture cards you used to get in the late 70s sending up old Hollywood Horror films? You'd get a pack of half a dozen cards, think they were called "Creature Feature" and you'd get a strip of bubble gum too. The cards usually depicted a still from Frankenstien, for example, and there would be a witty caption to go along with it.

Does anyone remember some chewing gum tablets from the '70s called either M1s, or MIs? They had, what tasted like shampoo in the middle. We ate them for the disgust element!

Thanks huggy, but these were definitely MI, or M1s. Re- Horror cards. I had a collection of them in a scrap book. They were mainly Hammer Horror stills, and I remember one from one of the Draculas, (Dracula Has Risen From The Grave, most likely)... of a Victorian gentleman, unconcious, on the floor, wrecked furniture around him, with the subtitle, "That was some party!" I'm hoping the scrapbook is still with me!

Yes I remember those, they tasted like disinfectant and came with two smiley face tattoo's. I loved them!

I'm quite sure they were called Dubble Bubble and instead of it saying 'Americas Original' it said 'Fleer' before they were bought by marvel.

http://www.gumball.com/images/dubble-bubble-logo.jpg

I've looked everywhere on the net but have only found different versions of them, and have not seen one single picture of the tattoo's (which says to me that they probably don't come with them anymore).

Anybody any further forward with this, the greatest mystery of all time, the name of the germoline bubble gum with the smiley face tattoos? NostalgiaFreak suggests Dubble Bubble. My memory of a white wrapper supports this and I've found a pic of 'modern' dubble bubbles that have pink wrappers but they are the same size and shape of the bubblies in my memory. Oh to get some definitive evidence! we are so close to cracking it!

I don't think they were Dubble Bubble. They were in white wrappers but I can't remember what they were called! I can 'see' them in my head and remember exactly how they tasted!

Just checked out the link and the poster seems to think they had the smiley face tattoos and the wrapper certainly matches my vague memory of mainly white with blue, so I think that these could indeed be the mystery bubble gums! Hallelujah!
