I've asked elsewhere and no-one seems to have a clue about these two. First one - I think the illustrations were similar to the kind in 'The House That Floated Away' by Pat Hutchins - skinny family, scruffy clothes, etc. I think there's a plot but all I remember is the family piling into a small car and going shopping. They seemed very excited about the escalator in the department store, and the ironmongers (or maybe I was and that's why I remember them!) I think the teenage daughter complains about rain at some point. It was a paperback and it wasn't a thick book.
The other was a small hardback book, just about a girl getting ready in the morning, brushing her hair. She looked a bit like Peppermint Patty from Charlie Brown - brownish bowl cut hair, smiley, green or brown top. Not much text.
Any ideas? I'm sure I didn't imagine them!
