Help me find this book!!!!!

i grew up in the 90s (born 89) and had a short story book about a little boy who wouldnt go to sleep. its all a bit vague remembering it, but i can remember he kept going downstairs for a drink (either water or milk) and ended up spilling it by the bed (making it look like he'd wet the bed). He played with a red ball, and im sure he fell asleep eventually in the dogbed.. he had a puppy. i cant remember the name of the boy, and id like to find the book again but have no idea of the title! or author for that matter!
