Please help?! I am trying to remember a book which I loved as a child in the mid 1970's. It resembled the style of Maurice Sendak's 'Where the Wild Things Are' and was about a boy (I think it was a boy) that climbed out of his bedroom window at night and went across a bridge, through some woods, etc etc an eventually reached an island with possibly some creatures on it. It was quite a simple book so I think I would have had it around 1973-1976. Can anyone help? The images I have in my mind are very much like those in Where the Wild Things are so I was hoping it was a Maurice Sendak book but I have had no luck locating it. Possible titles would be 'Into the Night' or something similar. Does anyone recall this book?? Here's hoping.

Sendak did a book called "in the night kitchen", it could be that. I don't know if the plot is the same..
