I was thinking about a mates brother on another thread when it suddenly occurred to me that his flared jeans were covered with patches. Not just one or two patches, but totally smothered with them. I had a jacket with more then one patch on it and many of my mates had patches sewn onto their clothes as well. I don't think these were just to cover up holes although I expect a few were. I know many of our parents were still in the mend and make do mindset which survived from the last war in the early part of the 70's. But wasn't there a craze for patches in the early 70's along with badges?
