Did anyone else have one of these? Dad got me one from work. You put in strips of plastic with a sticky back and pressed out letters into the plastic. Good for making name tags etc.

Re: Thing for printing out letters onto plastic strips
These things crossed my mind the other day when I found a stamped plastic strip in a book at a charity shop with a kids name on it.Brought back memories of my parants using one to put my name into things that had to be taken into school with me.Useful item to have.Wonder if they are still in production somewhere.

That's the thing. I didn't know what it was called. That Dyno one looks like quite a sleek model. I think the one I had was made of metal and quite clunky looking. I was envied at school for a while as nobody else had one.
My memory of these was jogged the other day watching a 70's show when they had the strips on some filing cabinets.1976 Vintage

Amazon has a few. Modern ones.

I can't find anyone doing retro models. The one I recall from the 70s was gun shaped. Hence the name 'Dymo-Gun' I suppose.Last edited by Marine Boy; 29-12-2011, 23:10.

Re: Thing for printing out letters onto plastic strips
Some of the more modern ones (80's) are actually gun shaped, but one I had was vaguely 'Gun' shaped, you just put fingers underneath and clicked it, then moved dial to next letter.
We still have them at work now, but they are all now battery operated and the machine now prints a label instead of punching the letter out of stiff plastic.
WH Smith used to have stacks of them back in the 70's
