The one day ITV Strike happened on 23 July when the entire ITV network (except Westward TV and Channel TV) shut down for the day.
Further action arose and by Friday 10 August the whole network (except Channel TV) was on strike for 10 weeks until 5:45pm Wednesday 24 October. More here

- The UK's entry was "Mary Ann" sung by Black Lace; it finished 7th with 73 points.
- (Does anyone remember that song? Black Lace are much better remembered for "Aga-Doo" in 1984)
- Norway did better than 1978: "Oliver" sung by Anita Skorgan finished 11th with 57 points.
- No-one got nul-points; Belgium "Hey Nana" sung by Micha Marah and Austria "Heute In Jerusalem" sung by Christina Simon finished both joint last with 5 points.
