- The rule requiring each country to sing in one of its own native languages was abolished, therefore each country could sing in any language of its choice (many countries sang in English).
- Following removal of the requirement to provide an orchestra, the Israeli broadcaster chose not to use one.
- Sweden won with "Take Me To Your Heaven" sung by Charlotte Nilsson, scoring 163 points.
- The UK's entry "Say It Again" sung by Precious, finished 12th with 38 points.
- No-one scored nul points; Spain finished last with 1 point: "No Quiero Escuchar" sung by Lydia.
