      The Demon Barber of Fleet
      Street
Denis Quilley and Julia McKenzie star in an exclusive recording of the Royal National Theatre's hit production of Stephen Sondheim 's musical thriller.
It is the tale of a half-mad barber who returns home after escaping from an unjust imprisonment, to take vengeance on the judge who sentenced him, ravished his wife and now plans to marry his daughter. However, Sweeney doesn't limit himself to one victim, he takes revenge against the whole world for his and his daughter's suffering by slitting the throats of his customers, whose corpses are then made into meat pies by his enterprising accomplice, Mrs Lovett.
      Book by Hugh Wheeler.

In 1992 the release of just one album took the Irish music industry by storm.
A Woman's Heart, featuring the combined talents of six female performers, achieved sales in excess of 300,000 and became the largest-selling album in the history of Irish music. To celebrate the release of the follow-up collection, which looks set to overtake the original, Tony McAuley listens to the songs and tunes and talks to Mary Black , Sharon Shannon ,
Maura O'Connell , Eleanor McAvoy and Frances Black , whose talents led to this successful collaboration.
He also meets Joe O'Reilly , whose small Dublin record label conceived the idea, and composer and music producer Phil Coulter , who reflects on the state of Irish music today.
                      Producer Jim Sheridan

With the new year comes a new presenter, David Allan , who is anything but a newcomer to country music. David made his radio debut as a country DJ on a 60s pirate station, but he is probably best remembered as presenter of BBCtv's coverage of the Wembley Country Music Festivals.
He has also hosted several flagship country programmes on Radio 2, including a spell on Country Club itself.
To make his return to the show even more memorable, David has the pleasure of introducing one of country music's brightest stars, Hal Ketchum , in concert.

As usual, Paul uses the first programme of the year as a get-together for the country's leading blues writers and invites them to select their favourite album tracks from 1994. As well as experts from specialist blues magazines like Blues and Rhythm, Juke Blues and Blueprint, Paul is joined by blues correspondents from Folk Roots, Mojo and Record Collector.
