Fun at One is a regular spot featuring comedy classics. Although Paul has a lot of favourite comedy acts he prefers those that focus on situations that everybody can identify with. He explains, 'It's great when you can recognise that moment and remember the embarrassment when it actually happened to you. I like to look on the funny side of life, and if I was given the choice I would love to be a comedian. A good one of course'.
Regular listeners will know that he is indeed humorous, and often produces various voices and impersonations triggered-off by record titles, but claims he doesn't have a repertoire. How did he first start?
'Going to 12 different schools I was always the new boy, and I soon learned that if I managed to do a good impersonation of the worst teacher I'd make friends - and save myself from being hit'

The DLT who presents the afternoon show is a different persona to the former breakfast show DJ. The reason is that it's a more normal time of day for him - although normal is the last word Dave would use to describe the programme. 'I've gone slightly barmy on this show, and I love it: Most of the ideas and chat are off the top of my head, not pre-planned, so nothing is normal - people don't want normality!'
People do ridiculous things on the phone; surprise guests have included Bette Midler and an interview with Ray Charles.
Regular features include the Replay Competition at 4.0 which gets you racking your brains, and a caption contest on selected pictures from RADIO TIMES.
