The 11th in a series of 18 programmes,
Richard Perry (Part 2 of 2) Introduced by Andy Peebles
Although dealing in sound, Perry's production approach is based on visual concepts. He sees a stereo picture as a stage or piece of architecture, building sounds around his central feature.
Never afraid to tackle projects across a wide performance spectrum, his work has ranged from speech and music albums with Theodore Bikel to West-Coast ' punk ' bands.
Like a number of his contemporaries, he now has his own record label, Planet Records, which he founded in 1978. Whether or not launching his own label was a wise move still remains to be seen, but all other evidence would seem to suggest that successful record producers should stick to production.
A book to accompany the series will be available in May from booksellers
