Ten programmes telling The Story of Motown Introduced by Stuart Grundy

With the move from Detroit to Los Angeles, Motown lost much of its original impetus. Founder and chairman Berry Gordy's attention was being increasingly claimed by the film world, and the record company's course - once straight as an arrow - began to meander. The time was ripe for Stevie Wonder to become Motown's 'standard bearer', which he did through the release of a brilliant quartet of albums. The '11-year-old genius' had at last begun to fulfil his promise. Meanwhile, a young Lionel Richie experienced his first chart success with The Commodores.
