A British sporting hero, whose cricketing exploits did much to lift morale in the post-Second World War years. A brilliant middle-order batsman: who can forget the 'Compton Sweep' and the record 3,816 runs scored in the summer of 1947, many in partnership with Bill Edrich for Middlesex and England? However, his achievements were not confined to cricket; he was the left-winger in Arsenal's FA Cup-winning team of 1950. In conversation with GERALD wiluams, Denis Compton reflects on his sporting life, expresses strong views on the current state of cricket and celebrates his latest career figures on becoming a father for the fifth time at the age of 66! Mike Smith introduces 5: Nightclubbing
By 1975 nightclubs were beginning to emerge with a new concept of exclusivity.
Through establishments such as The Blitz and The Camden Palace, the style-conscious trendsetters laid the paths that were to influence a musical generation. The programme also explores the emergence of UK funk bands, discos and a range of specialist music venues. Written and produced by KEVIN HOWLETT

1956. It was not only the year of his controversial victory at the Olympic Games, but also when Bert Trautmann broke his neck in the FA Cup Final; Jim Laker took 19 wickets for just 90 runs in one Test match; and Devon Loch collapsed before the finishing line during the Grand National.
