Leave the rest to him... Frankie Vaughan is due for a spot of moonlighting this week, as he tells David Gillard.
Still high-kicking after 41 years in the business, Frankie Vaughan rests his legs on Saturday when he sits in for David Jacobs. 'It's a lovely compliment - David's the guv'nor, isn't he?'
There was a time when you might have found Frankie in less complimentary mood. For in the 60s, as chairman of TV's famous record show Juke Box Jury, the urbane Mr Jacobs and his panel were not always polite about Mr Vaughan's offerings.
Looking back over his career he says that, without radio, 'I wouldn't be here today. Then it was the way of getting before the public. TV was very much second fiddle.' Still inseparable from his straw boater and cane, 'Mr Moonlight' is as busy as ever. On Thursday he tees off with some like-minded charitable celebrities in his second golf tournament, the Frankie Vaughan Golf Classic, at Hazlemere in Buckinghamshire. 'We're aiming to raise ã50,000 for boys' clubs in the one day,' he says proudly.
