Actor R. Lee Ermey who was best known as Gunnery Sergeant Hartman, the Marine drill instructor in Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket, died today of pneumonia. He was 74.

I'm sad to hear that R Lee Ermey has passed away. He gave a marvellous performance in Full Metal Jacket, probably the definitive portrayal of a drill instructor. RIP R Lee Ermey
