Gay Byrne, the Irish television presenter, famous for RTE's Late, Late Show has died aged 85 - a show which had a signature tune by Chris "Yesterday Man" Andrews.
Although he was based in his native Ireland, Byrne did programmes for the BBC and Granada Television in the 1960s and 1970s, and of course, his stint on The Late, Late Show was seen on Channel 4 in the 1990s. People say that the Irish make great television hosts, and Byrne was no exception, making comparisons with other Irish hosts who made their mark and had a more prominent broadcasting career in Great Britain such as Terry Wogan, Eamonn Andrews and Henry Kelly.
The late, late Gay Byrne.
