normally got a lift in then walked home.

all my schools where roughly the same distance from home.

it was pretty rough on the school bus from what i remember.

Use to catch bus to college and just use now and again if go out for drink but havent used for ages

Believe it or not, public can actually use school buses. In the timetable on the school routes page, it says all school buses are available for public to use too

But who would want to travel on a bus full of kids? lol

Not quite the same thing, but my comprehensive school had its own minibus that was owned by one of the PE teachers, and it was used to take us swimming, and on outdoor pursuits, etc. While I was there, we even raised money in sponsorships for a second minibus - it was a real treat to ride in it when it was brand new - that smell of the inside of a brand new vehicle.

Public transport wise, there were bus stops almost outside the main entrance.
