We had to wear aprons in metal/woodwork so the tie in the machinery wasn't so much of an issue. I seem to remember the workshops also being cold all the time so jumpers were also a necessity and helped with the tie control situation, although my Pierre Cardin cardigan wasn't much cop at holding the tie in as the neck line was quite low.

That is like why when he had such lessons we did ours thin - but dea midgy short like 3 stripes long lol

The un-wanted extra of this being you had miles and yards and yards of the proper side to tuck in - which was far far worse if you was Nutmegged than long thin with just a chunky bit left over (though far from being as cool) mind

Do you recall Mulletino that in lessons like these, this was the only time it was "accepted" to show only the knot of your Tie with it all tucked in - regardless of if you did your Tie thin and had the proper part behind or proper in front like the cry-baby Geeks did, but though you'd never get away with this in say English or Maths?? Lol

To me and others from my School Days, I think we thought and still do as long as the proper side was'nt lower or longer than the thin bit - that does it matter Mulletino!!?

It was a common thing in the early 1980s I believe to wallpaper one's exercise books in order to keep them clean, although that phase had gone by the time I started Comprehensive School at the end of the 1980s - my oldest sister used to cover some of her's with knobbly "hallway" wallpaper (1981-ish), and I was half expecting her to paint it in Art, or even use a coat of Dulux on it! It was most likely to be Pritt Stick and not wallpaper paste which they used to stick it onto their books! I believe that Series 8 of Grange Hill had an episode during Bronson's first series where we see Zammon's fourth year either as part of his tutorial or his French lesson about some pupils covering their exercise books in order to keep them clean, although some of theirs looked as if they had used wrapping paper instead - they did look thin compared to the walllpapered ones.

I know that some stationary shops (such as PK, remember them? - they later became Stationary Box) sold coloured plastic covers with transparent insides to tuck one's exercise book into - it had printed in black on the front: - "Name: Class/Form: and Subject:" on the front. So, we obviously wrote our name, class/form, and subject on the front (usually with a sticker because pen ink doesn't work too well on plastic and could rub off, even with pen). It kept them clean, and that was the main thing. Ryman might still sell them.

Was it just my School or do others recall having to Double Back our main Subject like English and maths non-rough Books with Wallpaper or say pics from Magazines if the Teachers approved??

As well in PE we could only wear Trakkie Bottoms at certain times of Year and even then at the Teacher's approval instead of Shorts ... and now these days Trakkies or Joggers are more approved of as PE-wear than Shorts I hear from relations at School.

Never going in in your Blazer after Year 9 was cool (or Jumper at my 2nd School) which acted as our Blaer

Funny we got told off for both these (Blazer at 1st Secondary) too, but less freqently our Ties skinny side out Lol

Must admit I had not thought of it as/like so Muletino, as I thought as long as it was tucked in (seen a bit otr not when tucked in0 that it did'nt really matter did it?! Or am I wrong?

Another 1 - unless you was on the Football/rugby Teams we was'nt allowed flash-colourfull football/Rugby Boots - which was understandable I guess price-wise etc but why let it be ok for the Top Team Players and not normal PE Footy - that stinks a lot to me Lol

Not being allowed to wear/show coloured T Shirts under your School Shirt and Footy ones certainly being a no-no

The first time I recall this was a sort of mate doing a Green Liverpool shirt - where the V on it just showed - I must admit though Kids today these days it must be awesome who they do this with loads of Shirt buttons not fastened, like after playing footy at lunch

We had many silly rules we would be piulled up/busted over -eg Blazer Badge not ironed on perfect or Shirt out or Top Button not done up or swapping School Trousers for Farrahs/Cords .... but never for doing your tie skinny!! Why??

Unless you used the top button for this purpose I would say that this was near-on impossible to achieve to be fair Mulletino!

Very true like the (I think their name) was pin stripe Ties of the era, but regardless a bit of the big side would always be seen unless tucked in your Top Button M mate!
