Underwear and black sandshoes in first school
First three years of high school, the regulation white polo shirt and pleated skirt with shorts underneath in school colours and trainers
last two years of high school - whatever we wanted. Alas it was the era when a shell suit was the garment of choice 🙈

Our geography teacher was cricket mad and would come out to the field on a sunny summer lunchtime in full whites and pads and had the older boys bowl at him with the challenge that if he got bowled out (not caught) he would give the bowler a fiver.
that was a fortune in those days.
i used to go to my aunties for lunch so by the time I got back into school premises everyone Had tired of trying to bowl out the teacher, I asked for a shot and got him out first ball.
teacher claimed he wasn’t ready and didn’t count

We had White Polos or White T Shirts too Tricky Vee, with Black or White Shorts 'pending on "said activity/game"

Invariably though as the years progressed we decided to try and "chance" swapping one of the Polo/T-V Shirt or Shorts for a Football Shirt or Football shorts Lol!!

        • I can remember BAGA (was it) badge sewn onto my swimming trunks. I think we did have an egg and spoon race in primary school anyway, oh and a sack race. I think I hated the horse most in PE or maybe those two rings and those wall bars, all the boys seemed to do was watch the girls climbing them. Never did figure out why. Anyone who has seen the football scene in Kes will know that there have been some quite authoritarian sports masters across the years.

Indeed - we had quite a fearsome few too, one was called Mr Read (though I dunno if it was spelled as Reid) but either way he got called names in the vain of the Radio DJ and Mike "form" (as in Frank Butcher on eastEnders. I am also sure was called Mike - or was that wishful thinkjing that we made him become a Mike!!(though regardless i am certain he was called Mike ... well 80%-ish)

Thankfuly Mr Read/reid was'nt as bad as the stero-typical Mr foster in Grange hill (blayed by Roger Sloman who became as famous as funeral-parlour owner-manager Les on EastEasnders) who was equaly as miserable as Foster and looked the same age as Foster (in the late 70s when GH began) - though i'm unsure if I am paying Roger a compliment here or not to be honestlol

Going away from foster and his quick spell as one of the most feared PE Teachers ever then led to the Great Mr Geoff "Bullet" Baxter who equaly gave PE Teachers tht old type "Fergie "Cups at Half Time" slanging match - though of course he was a-head of Fergie's time (but I know/hope that this represents my drift", sort of)

As workman like and a winner at all costs as axter like Fergie and even Paisley etc was, who demanded 1000% regardless, at least he did give PE Teachers a good name in time when he "hammered Hicks" to the Wet Floor en-route to his standing as the first longest serving GH Teacher , which like with my Mr Reied/Read made GH and PE Teachers like Footy Mangers a real representation and really feared back then i thought
