    There were a few of these blackboards at my primary school along with whiteboards. They were quite common in primary schools in the 1990s.

        i used to do that just to annoy the teachers and some of the other pupils.

          At university one classroom had a whiteboard but it was free-standing and to the side of the main blackboard. I remember the blackboard surface turning increasingly grey as chalk was used on it and removed with a cloth or eraser. It was rare for the board to be washed down to return it to its proper colour.
