Also: "Ip dip sky blue; who's it? ..not you". There must have been many more.

And why 'ip-dip'? Wonder what the origin of that is?

      For determining who's it.

Rhyme sayer: Mickey Mouse had a house, what colour was it....
      Child: RED
      Rhyme sayer: R - E - D you are not it.

      ---------------------

He's Popeye the sailor man, he lives in a caravan etc etc

      ---------------------

All join on if you want to play (armies, tig, football)

      ---------------------

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh (like an air raid siren) I'm telling/Gonna tell

Also the boys used to go round the playground in a group arm in arm saying:

'Who wants to play Wars, no girls aloud'.

They never played it though because it took the whole playtime to get enough people together, then we went in!

Don't know if you'd call it a playground song, but I thought of this silly rhyme we used to say :-

'Oompah, oompah, stick it up your jumper!'

              Couple of songs I remember

I was coming out the bath and this song came into my head, oddly enough.

              With my hand on myself,
              what have we here,
              this is my topnotcher
              my mother dear......

It continued down the body and you had to remember everything in order, backwards and sing ding a ling a ling
thats what they taught me at school!!!

The other one was "I had the german measles"
,but that might be a Scottish one,not sure.

Anyone remember these?Or have any other strange songs from school?

                See see my baby
I can not play with you
                My dolly's got the flu
Chicken pox and the measles too
                Slide down the drain pipe
                And through the cellar door
                And we'll be jolly friends
Forever more, more, shut that door, don't forget to scrub the floor!
                (hand clapping song)

Cannibal king with the big nose ring
fell in love with the hula da-a-ame
and every night, when the moon shone bright
                across the lake he ca-a-ame
they hugged and kissed in the gathering mist
by the shade of the bamboo tree-e-e
and I was there quite unaware
it sounded like this to me-e-e
Ga ru, ga ru, ga ru tiddly i de ey-e-e
Ga ru, ga ru, ga ru tiddly i de ey-e-e

                  Re: Playground /school Songs!

Sorry, didn't realise there was a post already about this.

Trickyvee,we had a slighty different version of this.

                  See,see,my playmate,
come out and play with me,
                  and bring your dollies 3.
                  climb up my apple tree,
                  slide down my drainpipe,
                  peep through my celler door
                  and we'll be jolly friends,
                  for evermore

                  See,see my playmate
                  I cannot play with you
                  my dollies got the flu
                  boo hoo,hoo hoo hoo hoo
                  aint got no drainpipe
                  aint got no celler door
but we'll be jolly friends for ever more
                  shut that door!

Have a cigarette sir, no sir, why sir, because I've got a cold sir, where did you catch the cold sir, from the north pole sir, what were you doing there sir, catching a polar bear sir, how many did you catch sir, one sir, two sir, the third one caught me sir!...

It's amazing what sticks in our minds!..lol

                        Re: Playground /school Songs!

I can remember this from school in Chesterfield circa 1962
                        spaggamagga pudding and toenail pie
all mixed up with a dead dog's eye
if you don't like it, mix it up thick
and wash it all down with a cold cup of sick

the spaggamagga bit was probably something that had been misheard/mis-transmitted

I also remember, late sixties, there were two versions of Rule Britannia - the thing that was considered smart and funny was the way one line rolled into the next enabling you to get away with using "swear words" - one went like this...
Rule Britannia two monkeys up a stick one fell down and paralysed his prickles was a bulldog sitting on the grassk no questions tell no lies I saw a policemant buttoning up his flies are a nuisance bugs are worse I saw a Chinaman riding in a hearse are very big mine are small -- can't remember the rest

Welcome to the forum Alan, the forum is 70's to 90's so if you could keep future posts to these decades that would be great
The only thing to look forward to is the past

In the tig song adout being no good I seem to remember the next line being when he's dead stand on his head then we'll have some currant bread, God knows what all that was about.

That's quite tame. We were all for boiling heads and making them into gingerbread!

I went to a chinese restaurant to buy a loaf of bread, bread, bread.
He wrapped it up in a five pound note and this is what he said, said, said...

                                ...Can't remember the rest.
