I was absolutely delighted to see Kyren win on Monday - he comes across as a brilliant and generous sort of chap. I feasted out on a McDonald's takeaway ordered online in the afternoon and evening, watching the final on BBC Two. Best way to spend a May Day Bank Holiday Monday.
Indeed, I got his autograph in August 2021 - A top bloke indeed. No disrespect to Jak Jones, however - I will hopefully be staying in Wales in August in his honour, providing that Sunak doesn't schedule the General Election at the same time.
Also, I noticed that the seniors tornament is on this week as well, on Channel 5, surprisingly. Is the first time that Channel 5 have covered snooker? I believe that Eurosport or ITV4 usually covered it in previous years.

And of course, we didn't have protests, covering the snooker tables with orange powder back in the day; supergluing themselves to the table, or alarms going off. It's great that we still have Dennis Taylor doing commentary.
I noted down ten players as my "ten to follow" and all ten made it to the second round - O'Sullivan being the wildcard.

It was a Lillywhite final because David Lilley played Jimmy White - Lilley won over JW (who always seemed to be the Billy Fury of snooker - i.e. always seemed to end second and not quite get to number one).

And it happened again in Round One at the Crucible this year - Kyren beat Gary, and Kyren stayed in until beaten by Shaun Murphy in the semi-finals. It made me think as he was mentioned as K Wilson in round one and just Wilson after that - I would have thought it was have caused confusion as a result from the second found onwards.
Anyway, congratulations to Mark "The Jester from Leicester" Selby on his fourth win at the Crucible - saw it on BBC Two until the finish at 10.30 pm. Nice that an East Midlander wins again.

Steve Davis must have played Mark Davis at some point, as well as Dennis and David Taylor, although Alex Higgins were from different eras and probably didn't meet professionally.

I was watching the current snooker championship just now and there are two players who can call themselves J Jones - Jak Jones and Jamie Jones, and Jak Jones had to be listed at the bottom of the screen by both first and last name.
The only other example would be Dennis Taylor and David Taylor, but did they ever officially play in the same tournaments together?

Re: Snooker
So as much as i enjoyed watching the final of the welsh open it was over disappointingly fast with Murphy crushing Wilson 9 frames to 1, Wilson diden't play terribly he was simply outclassed by Murphy who was on brilliant form

Re: Snooker
I remember Denis Taylor being in an advert for the Today newspaper, putting on a massive pair of his trifocals & playing at a snooker table with far more reds in the triangle as usual.

Re: Snooker
Hearn did make snooker popular in the 1980s - without him it would have been an underground sport. He was responsible for a lot of eighties names such as Kirk Stevens, Tony Meo, Doug Mountjoy, Drago, and others.
Appearances outside the sport really helped boost their profiles - remember the 1980s BBC quiz show Pot the Question? It was on around seven or eight years before Big Break started and a lot of Barry Hearne names guested on there. And of course, they made appearances in adverts at the time as well - the Carling Black Label one from the mid 1980s with Len Ganley crushing the cue ball in dust is one example. Steve Davis was everywhere in the 1980s - he made cameos in drama series, children's TV (Blue Peter, and perhaps a Dramarama?), adverts (Heinz Bakes Beans and Cross and Blackwell come to mind), and other places.
