I remember many years ago while waiting for Grand National to start they did a World of Sport special.

The commentators had been looking back at previous winners for years and had noticed that, when winner was led into the enclosure the same bloke was always there holding on to the side of the horse, they tracked him down and he was a waiter in a Liverpool hotel.

He was Irish and a steeplechase fanatic and he booked same weekend off every year to go to the National.

Anyone know if he still does this cos he'll be a good age now?

Well I recorded the National and the aftermath at weekend and then spent a bit of time looking through the crowds but couldn't spot him...

He probably either too old or pushing daisies now
