  • The Space Shuttle

This week marked the end of the Space Shuttle missions after 30 years. The first flight was in April 1981 when Columbia (which exploded on re-entry in 2003) lifted off.

I can remember watching this live at school and finding it really exciting, there was quite a build up to it if I remember correctly.

On holiday in Florida in the late 90's i was lucky enough to be there at the time of a mission and got to see the shuttle separating from it's fuel tanks high in the sky, that was a pretty special moment too.

It's a shame they're going to rely on conventional rockets now but with safety and cost reasons it's understandable.
The only thing to look forward to is the past

Dad once took us to see a shuttle at Stansted Airport before school.
