FRAME! - Great memories there! These cars you have owned are fabulous indeed! My Dad had a Bedford Van like the one pictured he got it from the scrapyard in 1973 for £14 and the fumes used to come wafting into the cab and gas us all! Thankyou.

I do miss Sid,he was great fun. Sliding doors and column change gears,bit tatty inside but he was very old

Look whats lurking in the background though..... a proper eighties piece of kit, the Sierra 4X4i.

Looking at your van reminded me of how basic cars were back then.
Its missing, electric windows, air-con, cd player, air bags, electric mirrors, six speed box, power steering etc etc etc but we were just pleased to have a motor back then.

These day's unless it has all of the above plus more toy's no one wants them.

My first car (MK2 Escort) had nothing.... not even a radio but it was mine and I loved it.

Looking at your van reminded me of how basic cars were back then.
Its missing, electric windows, air-con, cd player, air bags, electric mirrors, six speed box, power steering etc etc etc but we were just pleased to have a motor back then.

All you needed was four wheels. The early Cortina & Escort are classic basic cars, rife for tweaking.. wish those days were still here.. everything now is just disposable
You get a better, smoother ride in a lovely all mod cons car, but damn, It feels good to ride Old Skool sometimes

The car in the background is a Sierra 2.0i Sport nicknamed 'trolley destroyer' as years ago (when I was a bit naughty) friends and I used to congregate in the local supermarket car park in the evenings and just hang-out. After a few weeks I got bored and decided to see how fast a shopping trolley would go with my front bumper behind it. This Sierra was rather rapid and we had the trolley upto about 40 mph before it developed a speed wobble so I eased off the throttle and we just watched helplessly as it wiped out into a grass bank at the end of the car park. I sort of feel a bit bad about it now but it was hilarious back then. More fun than dragging them to the nearest pond or park kids seem to do nowadays.

You are indeed right but on Sundays it usually had my friend perched on his drum kit in the back giving it some! Cornering was a bit of an issue with him. Sounded great though and brought a smile to many a person we passed.

My husband had similar cars -everytime we arranged a day out - their was something wrong with the car. Remember having the passenger door tied up because it wouldnt shut/the boot tied up the list goes on - but we had fun. We now have a boring "VW Golf".

I still have those problems now,the only difference is,is that I now pay someone else to do the dirty work. I still enjoy working on the oldies though.

The Talbot passed his MOT today, and went for a blast, (observing speed limits of course!) I do not really like uber modern cars, they don't have the same smell or feel to them?
