On the 29th July 1976 the end of Southend Pier Burnt down today 35 years later its still empty...

Funny thing this fire at the pier at Southend on Sea. In July 1976 I must of been on holiday staying with an Auntie at Minster on the Isle of Sheppey. I can remember dad and uncle Brian coming in from a night out at sheerness and announcing that there was a big fire over the water at Southend. Uncle Brian drove us down to the beach at sheerness at the back of the old fair ground where we could clearly see a bright glow far over the water. That is my memory of the event.
