People seem to complain about supermarkets but some of those who complain do not use the shops in the towns anyway saying that everything is too dear or the choice is not there.
it is a shame as supermarkets are killing the high street but they are not the only ones to blame.
I certainly do not have any answers to this problem but i guess someone somewhere will. hopefully before it is too late.
Mary portas has a big job on her hands to turn around the high street. If she manages to help in anyway then she certainly would be queen of shops.

I would love to get my fruit and veg fresh from a market or greengrocer but there is nothing local.Travelling into a town centre cost money with petrol then theres the parking issue.

I watched Mary Queen of shops last week she was in Liskeard Cornwall it was a shame why trade has been hit badly when Morrisons opened just outside the town.

I hope her transformation will keep locals in the town otherwise more shops will close its sad

yeah ive noticed that for sure.

but any i get from greengrocers or market stalls which we have every friday is far nicer than fruit ive got from a supermarket.

also i get fruit from the garages and it is much nicer than from a supermarket.

i never go near supermarkets now for anything.
ill go to either a garage or a specialist shop.

I dont think the fruit and veg are as fresh and tasty in the supermarket,the plums are waxy,the best tomatoes are on the vine the ordinary ones have no taste at all.The bananas are either to ripe or not ripe enough.

yes i agree mate.
great memories eh.

we still have our bakeries,greengrocers etc a few new ones we have.

i far rather the specialist bakeries greengrocers etc than the all in one supermarkets.
much friendlier atmosphere.

i remember i used to love going "down the town" right up to my teenage years, sunny Saturdays always made great days to go down with your mates.

but these days the high street sucks, i live 5 minutes away from it now but never go there unless i have to.

i guess we have the internet to thank for that.

I remember when I was small my local town had 2 greengrocers fishmonger butchers bakery woolworths liptons Co-op.

Where the fishmonger was is now a betting office liptons and the Co-op are hair dressers the old job centre is a tanning parlour one of the bakery is a tattooist how times have changed

In the light of the horse meat scandal some people are turning back to the local butcher......atleast you can ask where the 'meat' has come from.

A bit more expensive I know, but you can taste the quality in most cases.

That,s why a lot of the market towns don,t like having big supermarkets moving in because they know their buisnesses would close down.

in my town we still have the same butchers shops now as we did when i was just a nipper.
same with the bakeries as well.

they have moved to different partys of the town but still jhave the same name.


but yes its very sad how independent shops have closed down.

but my town is lucky its as busy asd ever.

It,s a shame why a lot of independent shops,have closed down in town centres,places boarded up ghosts town.I agree it,s not the same when pound shops move in you haven,t got much choice.Not so keen on out of town shopping parking is free,but the same names are everywhere.EG New look,Boots,Next

In light of the recent horse meat scandal some independent butchers are starting to reappear on our high streets makes me wonder if other traditional shops could find a niche market, maybe hardware or bakers shops. anything but pound and charity shops.
